So...I've never been to Boracay. I know. It's a shame right? :p Just wondering..how much would a week of staying there cost? accomodation, food, etc. Hope you guys can help. Wanna go there so bad. The beaches look incredible in pictures! Wanna see them in real life :DI've been there 3 times, stayed in 3 different hotels. So here are the generalities: 1) Staying in Boracay for a week might bore you if you're into the "I want to see other things" type. I mean, after island hopping (which will take approx 3-4hrs), swimming, walking the beach line, partying...there's not much to do but lie around all day. It's a winner spot for those who's REALLY burnt-out. 2) If you're in your mid-20s to late 30s and you love meeting people, you'll get enough by about 4 - 5 days 3) A week of stay at non-beachfront resorts would cost you approx Php6,500 (US$135) without meals. You can go out to eat which is cheap, or you can talk to the kasera (innkeeper) to give you at least 2 free meals. Hehe4) Staying at Station 1 would cost at least double, if not quadruple depending on where you want to stay. Station 1 beachfront resorts are the bomb!! I mean, you'll be thanking God all the way because of the beautiful beachfront, the pristine waters, the VERY white, fine sand. Also, that's where all the "beautiful people" stay. ;) So if you want to party, go walk towards Station 1...monied low-key people are there. You'll know if one is just nob-knobbing with the rich crowd -- sila pa mayabang (they're the arrogant ones).
Anyway, I hope I was able to help you a bit.

I totally agree with that. It may be the place for party people, but definitely not a haven for me. I went there before for work, so naturally, it would be stressful. But then again, I have this idea that Boracay is just really like Manila. Just less pollution and you have of course, the beach.

So i guess if there's not much to do then a week of stay would just bore me (and burn the cash right out of my pockets) haha. Partying and island hopping sure sounds like a lot of fun though. So I guess I have enough to go there in a couple of weeks from now. Thanks a lot, Manix! xoxo :)

I've never been in Boracay, but I wish I could go there to really see why people talk about it. I agree that Boracay has been too commercialized. There are a lot of equally beautiful, if not more beautiful, unexploited beaches to visit in the Philippines. I think people should choose the road less traveled when exploring places. They will be surprised what they will discover from their travels.

Check Station 3 area; it`s quiet, not crowded and the budget area of Boracay. Instead of big resorts you find mostly cottages and guesthouses there. But when you wish nightlife you`ll be within 10 minutes walk along the beach pathway at Station 2.

Yes, there are also rainy days with heavy showers .. depends on the season. You will not find a private beach, but still quiet areas .. as I mentioned before .. around Station 3 area at White Beach .. or Puka Shell Beach. Try to avoid peak season; thats xmas, easter and chinese new year. Prices are high, difficult to get rooms and too many tourists around ... just my 2cents .. In low season you can get a cottage with fan, tv, radio, shower .. less than 600 PHP. And even an aircon room less than 1000 PHP is no problem.

That's #1, for sure. 2nd, it's affordable even if it's celebrity-swarmed. 3rd, it's really nice to go walking along the beach and you see all of them ihaw-ihaws and bars and parties. Imagine that scene on your left, and then look up. It's a star-filled sky and you smell the ocean.
People and nature. It's God's wonder everywhere. THAT's what the hype is all about.

This might sound trivial to you, but believe me, once you go walking along the shoreline, its gonna count...
Walking barefoot along the shores of Boracay is advisable when you're at the Station 1 area/s. As you move from station to station, the sand gets rougher, and then it gets "rockier". Meaning, don't leave your flip-flops in your room if you intend to walk the entire length of the beach. ;)

You're not alone, Cess. I don't consider it a shame though because there are too many places to go around the country and to visit too many places can't just happen for a night. Perhaps there are reasons why you weren't able to go to this place yet just like me. I had so many chances as there were several invitations to visit the place and all expenses paid for but unfortunately there were some other priorities over this trip to Boracay. Well, it's not too late. Better late than never if I may say so.;)

It`s not permitted to use ATV`s at the beach or beach pathway. And to drive with ATV at the mainroad is also not a pleasure due to traffic.. but just my 2cents. You can drive with ATV up to Mt. Luho ... but tricyle will cost only 20 % of it ...

At Station 1 many ***** hotels, mostly expensive ... at Station 2 its mixed, but its the party zone, sometimes its crowded and noisy and Station 3 is the laid back, reasonable priced area with a relaxed atmosphere. There is only 1 good tatoo artist who can be recommended, that`s Normer. He worked before at Barracuda bar, Station 2. Someone told me, that Barracuda bar is sold now to a Korean .. but when you ask any local at that area for Normer from Barracuda Bar, everybody will assist you to find him.
By the way... many tourists like also those henna temporary tattoos ... but also many suffer later on from skin reactions. It cannot be recommended !
Below sample of skin reactions ( temp henna tats)

Are you thinking of getting a permanent tattoo? Or just henna tattoo? You have to be careful if you get henna tattoo here... my bf had a henna tattoo of a huge tree on his back and he developed rashes from it... I heard they don't use real henna so you have to be careful if you have very sensitive skin.

oooh gnarly! but i think it could also be a reaction to both an alergy to henna and a mix of sun on white skin and the salt water i would assume. personally i would suggest for lisa to get the tattoo done right before she leaves the island so she can enjoy the sun and the beach while she still there..otherwise u can't get that part of the body wet where ever u decide to put your tatoo. it would be a waste to spend ur time on that gorgeous beach and not be able to get in that pristine water...I luv boracay for the party and the beach. i will always go back there for that!

The problem is that this henna contains a chemical, called PPD (paraphenylenediamine), which causes skin reaction.
There are many warnings in the net about PPD and henna tattoos.
Take a look at this article (http://www.eastonwest.co.uk/bhw.html) or this one. (http://www.thaindian.com/newsportal/india-news/black-henna-tattoos-can-cause-major-skin-problems-re-issue_10079453.html)

Boracay is a real nice place to go too. Expensive but you can start saving up to really enjoy the place. I haven't been there myself but base on my friends stories, its a great place. I have a college friend who is from Aklan, our batch is planning to go there. We might stay in our friends place to save money. I want to save now so when I go there I can have financial freedom.

My reply to your first question is ... definately NO ! There are a lot of budget offers at Station 3 area. And when you dont mind to walk 1 or 2 minutes to White Beach you`ll find real bargains in 2nd row. But you can also google for Daves Strawhat Inn, Melindas Garden, Roys Rendevous ...
Our cottages start from 590 PHP per night for 2 guests. And its not just a simple hut .. There is even TV, Radio, shower/CR, per request WWW and and .. + the rate includes already tax and all other charges. Some places, like Ocean Breeze Inn too, also offer a guest kitchen. You can buy your food at Talipapa and cook it yourself to save $$$... No cheaper way to enjoy Philippines number 1 island :)
Regarding security .. Boracay is a safe place ! Just be careful same as if you travel to any other place like Palawan, Baguio, Cebu or .. Look for your belongings and be careful with strangers. Usual security like at any other place and you will not face any problems !

No BS?
Do you have bars, where we can just chill after a night in the beach, listen to some music.
And how does your reservation work?
Like, can I ask for a reservation say for next May?

True, not really bad. With that affordable rate, everyone can get that nice experience in Boracay. Thanks for the info, I'm trying to get some info as where to go as a friend of mine will be coming for a visit.
Well, Bora's night life is anything but boring. :) Check out Hey Jude, Guilly's Island, Cocomangas, and Club Paraw in Station 1 (I think when we were there we kinda hopped from one place to another) for drinking and dancing.
Anyway, you can never go wrong too with the henna tattoos and the shakes. Jonah's (also in Station 1) has the best shakes. Best experience sipping their shakes while watching the sun set over the pristing white shore and blue sea. My favorite combination is mango banana. Super addicting, I bought a shake every day of our stay in Bora. Cost is around P100($2) and totally worth it.
As to the henna tattoos, while waiting for your Jonah's shake, there is the reliable henna stand of Kuya Bogs just outside where you can have your tattoo free-handed or from the different style guides available. Just charm your way to Kuya Bogs' heart and he'll give the medium-sized tattoo for P50 (around $1)

When do you plan to go? It's kinda difficult to plan nowadays due to the really erratic weather.... Just heard from a friend that when they went to Punta Fuego last weekend, it rained the whole time they were there. But when it came for them to leave, the sun came up. Bummer.

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has shut down several businesses in the tourist area of Boracay Island...
In Boracay Island, the BIR closed down the operation of Salic Collection South Sea Pearls and Fine Jewelry located within D’Mall, the island’s main shopping center....
The BIR also closed down the operation of Alice in Wonderland Resort Bar and Restaurant, a relatively large resort in Boracay. The resort was the subject of a surveillance operation, which revealed the owners failed to file VAT returns and underdeclared the resort’s revenues. The BIR said it had a deficiency of P5.5 million in VAT payments.
The agency also temporarily closed down the operation of BigMouth Express Specialist Inc., a popular restaurant also located in D’Mall.

One long weekend - Friday - Monday would be the best length of stay in Bora. There are promos for group trips. for a group of 6 people we have 10k per head as budget - round trip tickets, accoms, food and drinks are all included.
Better check with some tour packages for boracay. Better plan ahead and try asking for rates from different agencies who offer packages.

Airfares nowadays are really cheap. Zest Air is offering one way tickets to Kalibo for about P800. That's usually a major part of the cost. However, since Bora is such a popular destination, there are plenty of choices in terms of airline.

We stayed at Fat Jimmy's resort way back in 2007. We went there on an off-peak season (October) which drove down the cost of the resort. It was less than 3k, breakfast included. It was a good thing that we were staying for 4 days and 3 nights, because it was heavily raining during the day of our arrival. The rain continued intermittently during the second day as well. That was the only drawback of a non peak season.

SEAIR is still the only airline with Caticlan as destination. All other airlines are diverted to Kalibo and the transfer continues with busses.
Now SEAIR uses its chances. They bought a third DO 328 aircraft from Germany last July and plan to buy a fourth in October; all suitable to land in Caticlan.
During Peak Season SEAIR will raise the number of flights to as many as 32 a day from Manila to Caticlan.

I have been to Boracay five times, the least. During our first visit, I really was amazed with the place. The beach sand is pearl white, the people are very accommodating and the sun just loved us so much. It was very cheap during that time. It was 300/night in a resort in Station 3. The room was air conditioned and the bathrooms are fine and working.
In our last visit, the rates went up to 2000/ night. well maybe the rates depend whether you go on a peak season or off season. Peak season is usually during summer and Christmas while the rest is off season.

Boracay is not expensive when you compare room rates & travel fares and also try to avoid peak season. Check budget rooms at Station 3 areas. Cebu Pacific has regular promos to Caticlan or Kalibo or use RoRo as alternative .. Welcome to Boracay :)
