My friends tell me the ride was quite long from Manila to the rice terraces.
Was wondering if there are any tips as far as road and ride options. Whats the best time to head there to avoid traffic?

Definitely at night. Leave Manila around 11pm. :)

I heard giant worms are destroying the landscape of the banaue rice terraces. Is it still as beautiful as the ones shown in photos?

"Near" is subjective. Banaue is about 8-9 hours land travel from Baguio, which is also the same travel time between Manila and Banaue, and even longer than Baguio-Manila. Saying that Baguio is near Banaue is tantamount to saying that Baguio is near Manila :)

There are areas where (without your knowledge) you are already "stepping" onto the rice terraces. For instance, the road from Banaue to Bontoc is in between terraces.

Of course, you if stepped onto the crops, they will be damaged...and so your feet --- you'll get muddy. Remember, these are rice fields and you have to walk along the edge or "pilapil", not on the rice bed.

It's better if you leave at night so you may sleep in the bus or in the car so that when you wake up, you'll be there. I believe Banaue is hours away from Baguio so be prepared for the long ride.

I am always enthralled by the handiwork that is the rice terraces. Every Filipino should take the time and money to visit this UNESCO heritage site. Seeing the terraces and its many variations, like the amphitheater like formation in Batad, Banaue plus the variety of rice species that are planted add to its wonder.

True. They really spent time to do the wonderful work. I just hope the place gets preserved until the future.

For the tip, I believe you should bring slippers, meds for dizziness if you easily get dizzy and a cap. :D
