I am one of those who is so afraid of the sea. I am mostly overcome by imaginations than entertaining the calming experiences when you are swimming, snorkeling, and maybe scuba diving. One time we went to Atulayan, a white-sand beach located off the town of Sanggay in Camarines Sur. My best friend was able to convince me to try snorkeling. It was a very long debate but I managed to try. Guess what, I really had a blast! I somehow overcome my fears and though I did not want to touch anything underwater but just the sight of it made my day!

Then for sometime my fear was gone. Did some snorkelings here and there until that one time. We were at a black sand beach where there was this narrow, short trench. It was covered with sea weeds on both sides and somehow it appeared scary. Well there was really a way to swim around it but for some reasons my friend swam right through it! I had no choice but to follow... being a scary cat and all. So I did, and as I feel the weeds touch my arms and legs and again the thought that maybe there is a shark with jaws gaping open as we reach the exit made me say THIS WILL BE LAST OF IT! By the way, the beach was at Sto Domingo.

Like me, some poeple develop phobia on something. Others maybe dead scared when riding cable cars or go zip lining for fear of heights; some cannot enter caves because they are claustrophobic; others in a bullet train because of tachophobia (fear of speed). And the list goes on. But one thing that we can do to have an awsome experience is to try to overcome it. Mind over matter. Think positive. You name it! I would say that it was the last for me... that time. But who knows anytime I get to see a great place for snorkeling, I would try one more time.

Do you have fears as well?:p

good for you! sometimes the best things in life is achieved by taking risks! I am also scared of the sea, I always picture myself even in the pool that there's shark going to attack me! But I happen to have an experience in snorkeling though because like you, I faced my fears. But it didn't turn out well since the Batangas beach I went to is rather disappointing because the coral reefs almost good as dead. Also the water is pretty blurry because of the debris i think. Well, thanks for this information I know now one of the good beaches I can snorkel! :)

For me what I'm afraid of is the jellyfish and other creatures that might sting me. I've heard it really painful so I try to stay away from those things.:(

Jellyfish doesn't hurt really, but they can be really itchy! After that Batangas trip, I discovered that i had that jellyfish sting moment while snorkeling! I just put betadine and after a week I was itch free!

i didn't really like travelling because im afraid to ride the plane and cross the sea.
but i thought, i will never enjoy what is on the other side if i don't, right?
so i had my share of scary, turbulent plane rides and rough waves. i had to conquer these fears just to travel.

When I got stung by a jelly fish a local fisherman poured something on it (now im debating whether it was vinegar or gas hmmmmm????). But whatever it was, IT WAS SO PAINFUL! The burning sensation was intense that I really cried. That experience added up to my distaste of swimming in the seas.

Plane rides are quite exciting and frightening at the same time. No matter how many times I rode a plane I will never get used to it. It's maybe because of the thought that you are way way above the ground and something goes wrong you have nowhere to go but down :D. I equally hate enclosed areas. If I don't see a speck of light and feel some air from outside I might pass out.

Then again, these are all in the mind. As adventurers we need to think beyond the scare and see what good it can do to us. Action speaks louder than words right hehe so next trip that I make I'll try this one out.

Hi. I have the same fear. When we swam in Subic, that was the only thing I was thinking about while swimming. We were told that there were jellyfish swimming around. In fact, I even saw a person who got stung by a jellyfish. I saw how he cried out in pain when the medicine was poured.
