You really have to be specific about an island you want to go. I guess everyone will be most willing and able to give you an answer to your question.

I would suggest going to Apo Island. It's amazing there. Perfect place for snorkeling and diving.

Yes, Eric, I guess you have a choice among the beautiful places that you find in this site. Tell us your preference so we can give you the estimated amount of budget you must spend to be able to visit a certain place and to find out if you can do backpacking. Perhaps, you haven't given an answer to this because you are still uncertain. You will miss one half of your life if you won't take the best chance to be in one or two of the nice spots here in the Philippines.

Eric might be referring to Boracay Island? Just a wild guess. Going to Boracay is not at all that expensive. You can always find the place that would fit your budget.

Eric should browse the other threads especially on the different islands of the Philippines. For sure, he will have a wide array of choices. He might even want a guide or bodyguard. He may invite any one of us here in the forum.

Philippines must be more than it just being cheap. Although cheap and affordable are high considerations. The last place you want to be, is the Philippines if you have run out of money.

The cost of living in the Philippines is considerably cheaper than in western countries. How frugally you want to live is entirely up to you, as the options are many.

The Philippines is ultra diverse, there's something for pretty much everyone from swimming with Whale Sharks, cheap diving and forgotten beaches to good surfing, even better nightlife, hill tribes; the list goes on.

These are very good information on philippine travel and now it is easier for anyone to travel in a budget and can save its hard-earn income and make a person's life easier and happier.

Agree. There are many options if you plan to travel in the Philippines. You do not need to have hundreds of thousands to enjoy the place. But of course, I think it is advisable that you plan ahead what you want to do so you may save up the money that you need. :)

Boracay Island’s celebrated White Beach is gorgeous and inviting and the low budget travel scene at Boracay is laid-back and easy to access. Beers by the beach is the main form of relaxation and nightlife here. Visitors should remember that Boracay has been a centre of tourism in the Philippines for decades and so it is not quite as pristine as other parts of the archipelago.
