Hi from San Francisco here. Thinking of taking the wife out for a summer trip. We were gonna head out to Mexico but the current swin flu scare is not good. What places are there in the Philippines besides Boracay?

Carlos, you're in the right website! Check the other threads & you'll have a wide range of selection of where to go in the P.I... I personally recommend Palawan, hundred Islands & Bohol if you want some island hopping.

If you're a tourist coming to the Philippines for our famous beaches, then you should never miss the island paradise of El Nido in Palawan. It will never fail to enchant you with more than 50 beaches and fun eco-friendly activities like scuba diving, cave exploring, kayaking, etc.

Carlos, this site has the excellent answer to what you need. Honestly, much to my surprise, I, myself, has to browse every thread here to discover a lot of beautiful places to go to for a vacation. I realized that I should get a tour to my own country to see these wonderful places I have never been.

I've come to that realization as well, actually. Didn't think there were other places other than the talk-of-the-town Boracay :D

Yes, it's true. We have so many stunning beach resorts around the country but Boracay has remained to be hugely talked-about. Despite what happened to the place during one of the strong storms had hit some places in the Philippines including Boracay; it has gained back it's publicity. What is in Boracay that made this place so popular world-wide even among international stars?

The breathtaking beauty of it. Which could be found in dozens more other tourist spots in the Philippines. Boracay just got lucky? lol idk :D

It is uber romantic. It is considered to be heaven on earth, especially if you go there with someone "very special". haha. But it comes with a very hefty price tag too.. so sad. around P16k per person for twin sharing per night during off season..

What is in Boracay that made this place so popular world-wide even among international stars?

It used to be the natural beauty of Boracay but now that everyone flocks there, it's become overpopulated and they have way too many hotels there. If it's natural beauty you're looking for (I'm still talking about beaches here, people, lol) then it's not Boracay you should be heading to. IMO the local govt hasn't been taking very good care of it and if they keep letting everybody put up resorts and restaurants there, it's going to eventually be a mini-city in a beach.

I was there two years ago and the shores were littered with algae (I think it was algae. Or maybe seaweed? I can't remember); you had to wade past the muck to get to the clean water. The night parties are lots of fun though; Boracay throws the best ones.

So to sum it up, it really depends on what you want out of a trip - if you want to unwind by partying by the beach and getting totally smashed (haha), Boracay is the place to go. If you want quiet and a beautiful scenery, best to go elsewhere, the Philippines has plenty that don't have a multitude of people and resorts smack dab by the shore.

I will surely try that not even only a summer trip but anytime of the year. But I think it's gonna be soon. My nephew & his wife spent a good time in Bohol last May 10th. That was his gift to her on Mother's Day. Perfect gift! I saw their photos, they're having so much fun.

Hey Megan, I was watching a tv show and while it was the commercial/sponsor's part there was this Sunsilk commercial???....It was a open & win thing and it says that one of the prizes will be a trip to El Nido, I mean a date with Jericho R to that very expensive place. Wheeew! Maybe, it's time to buy those Sunsilk sachet for your hair and then open the empty sachet to see your prize and hoping it's gonna be that reward of the El Nido trip so that you don't have to be that rich person or be with a rich person for the El Nido experience. What do you think? Lol!:D

Some other places to visit in the Philippines are Cebu and Palawan.

Cebu is a very beautiful place, and it has a great deal of nature viewing spots. Mactan Island, located very closely to Cebu, is a very popular place for scuba diving.

Palawan also has places near to dive and nature watch. You can visit El Nido which has gorgeous emerald green lagoons and white beach sand.

that table by the beach is in one of El Nido's 5 star resorts, could be Miniloc or Lagen island or one of the small islands surrounding the area.. They usually prepare special packages for you for honeymooners such as this one.. a romantic meal by the beach,,, just the 2 of you!

If you like Boracay but don't want the hustle and bustle of it, then try going to Caramoan. It's in Bicol and is a pristine strip of sand and sea. It has been featured in both Survivors France and Israel and is gaining quite a lot of notice now in international circles.

To get to Caramoan, one has to go to Sabang in Camarines Sur then take a lantsa (ferry is the translation I think) to Caramoan. The resort there is Gota and is quite nice.

However, I think Survivor Israel is still filming so the island resort is off limits. But they'll finish this June or July (or so they say) so if you're planning your trip in July or August, you might as well take a look and visit. :)

Go visit Palawan or Bohol.

So true, I have heard that the shores of Boracay is already populated by Debris and stuff... too bad i didn't get to see it when it was still clean... Speaking of quiet and beautiful scenery, if you still want to swim or somewhere near the beach you can always go to Talipanan beach of Puerto Galera... it is the best place if you want privacy and adventure!
