Since I was in grade school, My Values Education teacher always say that Filipinos are hospitable. Is this trait still exist in some Filipinos?

I think this is still evident. When we had community immersions in college, we were welcomed by practically strangers into their homes. They would prepare our food, take care of us, treat us like their own. They would prioritize our comfort, which I think is sweet. It's genuine.

This is still observed by many of us. I don't know for others but when visitors are expected at our home, we really prepare for them, give them the best room to stay in, and make sure they are comfortable, too.

Yes I think it still exists. It's very evident because Filipinos are very gracious in accommodating their guests.

Hospitality is definitely one of the greatest Filipino traits. I have traveled widely and I have yet to find a country where the locals willingly share their home with even a complete stranger. They will even go as far as offering a guest the master bedroom just to ensure that guests feel absolutely comfortable. I have experienced this in my my own home. My mother will go out of her way to prepare the best meal and will take her time to show a guest around town and make sure their stay will be memorable.

many tourist friends that I've met have always highlighted that experience here in the philippines. Hospitality still exist in the midst of all these kidnappings and Hold ups on the news.

I'm from New York, USA, I was an english teacher in cebu for a year, and I could say that cebuanos were very hospitable and friendly. I did not once have the feeling that anyone took advantage of me because i was white. People went out of their way to ask me if i needed any help and would try to talk to me as much as possible. I was always invited to a party or just a hang out at the local waterhole and always had a great time.

Well the headlines in California are not about the gang violence or the drug wars. There is crime everywhere people just need to be smart about it regardless if they are tourists or not.

Yes. Filipinos would offer the best for their visitors. This trait of ours is amazing and something we all should be proud of.:)

This is still evident of course. When I was visiting my friend's house they gave me juice for my drink. Though they did not give out a feast but they gave me the best they could for that day. And I could really say this Filipino trait is very very much popular world wide.

the philippines is as diverse as its people. different ethnicities do offer a very unique hospitality from the rest but in general, filipinos are warm, friendly and genuine and remarkably hospitable.

Yes, I do believe Filipinos are still hospitable. I think it's already an inherent trait for us to be warm and accommodating to almost everyone. :)

I agree, even the muslims here in Mindanao have their special way to show hospitality.

We actually have that habit that even if we are living on a very tight budget, we will pull all stops just to provide a lavish feast or a comfortable stay for our guest. I've seen this a couple of times especially in the province that it kinda makes you feel guilty when you are the recipient.

Filipinos are one hospitable race. It's no wonder that we excel in jobs that render quality and efficient service like in hotels and restaurants and hospitals.

I agree. I think even in cruise ships, the most warm cabin people are the Filipinos. :)

I think Filipinos still have this trait. However, some foreigners think (according to my Italian friend) that Filipinos do this because of money. You can't really be "friends". Of course, I told her that it isn't the case all the time.

the Filipino hospitality is indeed one-of-a-kind. there’s no such thing as an uninvited guest or a bad time to visit. there will always be something to eat that will be offered to the visitor, however difficult the time is. Filipinos will go out of their way to ensure the guest feels comfortable. :D

generally speaking, yes, filipinos are hospitable. this trait is well ingrained in us inasmuch as it was passed on to our parents by our grandparents. we are experts on hospitality when we don't know the people that well such as transient guests or foreigners, but over and above, many of us are full of sarcasm towards others specifically those which we know of beyond skin-deep. i take pride for our hospitality, but let's also face the bad and ugly side that we have as a people and try to consciously improve ourselves as there will always be room for it. :D

If we analyze our best qualities as a people we will find out that it is also our weakness.
Being hospitable is good thing, true. We Filipinos readily offer the best that we have to our guests. We extend help even to a total stranger, whether it's as simple as a glass of water to drink or as big as taking someone who's got an emergency to the hospital.

How does this become our weakness, then? We keep a lot of nice things at home in the cupboards and closets and we only bring them out when there atre guests.Once the guests are gone, we keep them all back. Those who actually live in the house never enjoy the beautiful fine china or the warm woven blankets. We extend help even to total strangers, some of these strangers are actually pretending that they need help because for them its their job.

Yeah i agree with you...my mother stocked all our quality utensils and chinawares on a "aparador" these things are only used during special occasion or there's a special guest in our house.

I also had the same experience in College, the people I stayed with even let us borrow their slippers and even prepared the best meals they can offer us. I agree, we may not even realize it but the hospitality value is still there. It just comes out naturally. :)

One trait that we Filipinos should be proud of is that we tend to see goodness most of the time. Although it may also be the reason why there are some people who are taking advantage of this trait. We are mostly kind and helpful. Some may appreciate our good traits for what its worth and some may take advantage of it.

I'll just say that the world is balanced between good and evil, yin and yang, light and darkness.

I am so touched. Sometimes we think we don't feel the nationalism, but whenever we are complimented for being Filipinos or something, we suddenly feel proud for being born in our homeland.

True, true. Especially when the compliment comes from a "convert" like the author :)

Yeah, I believe that Filipino hospitality is still among us. Filipinos do go along well with other people and we always offer a helping hand. I believe it is a trait that is passed onto generations.

Keeping our hospitable trait is knowing when not to be hospitable especially when somebody is taking advantage of it.
