Cebu is one of the best places to visit in the Philippines. It's the best of both worlds. You have the urban city, yet you can go to the beach in just thirty minutes. There are also other must-see places to visit if you love the great outdoor. Try Kawasan Falls in Badian. It's a 3 hour ride from the city.
You could also give Taoist monks a visit in the Taoist temple or visit the great Basilica del Santo Nino if you're a devout Catholic. Also, the Cebu Diocese just celebrated its 75th year and the Cathedral is worth the visit because it's newly renovated.

You can visit less pricey beaches in Cebu, but it's quite a long drive from the city to Moalboal. The beaches there are great, and it's free! haha. Try going to Bas Daku. But if you want, there are private beaches in Moalboal too. Or you could continue driving down to Badian. They have a private beach and golf club on the island. :)

The Island remains as one of Cebu's best kept secrets and is found on the southeastern tip of Cebu. It is 125 kilometers from Cebu City and is in close proximity to Dumaguete City. It is surrounded by crystal clear waters and is first marine protected area in the Philippines. The island is around 24 hectares in area. If you're a diver, you will find varied marine species and even occasional sightings of black tip sharks. Pristine white sand beaches are situated in different areas in the island.
Its Sandbar is well known for its changing shapes and shifting locations around the island, depending on the season. On the island, there is a natural lagoon and natural caves. On the southside, a lighthouse rests on a protected tree park and beside it is a “Baluarte”, a historical watchtower.
The pictures will just entice you to go there and feel the pristine waters yourself. :)

Cebu is a very peaceful city. I'm not saying this just because I am a Cebuano but many can attest to that. Beautiful Cebu is ideal for business and even for vacation.
We know for a fact that Cebu is a narrow island stretching from north to south and is known for its narrow coast lines, thus, very well known for the nice beaches. It is also surrounded by small neighboring islands and one of these islands is Camotes.
I had a wonderful bonding time with my family in one of the beautiful island resorts in the place called the Mangodlong Rock Resort, which gives an ideal intimacy and laid-back island atmosphere. It is a two-hour worth Ferry boat ride from Cebu City Port. The moment that I step on that island resort, I told myself....I like it here! Ideal for honeymooners.:)

If you want to travel on a budget in Cebu or anywhere else in the Philippines, here are a few tips:
1. Plan your trips ahead. Even if you’re just going to another province, consider planning your trips ahead in order to get the best deals. Airlines usually have promos but for a limited time and seats only. Plan where you’re going and grab the next promo ticket on that destination. Planning ahead would also give you time to ask your friends and family to come along so that you can share the expenses.
2. Make use of the Internet. Don’t buy expensive guide books, maps and travel agents. The Internet is full of free and useful information if you know where to look. Travel agency operate for profit so if you are adventurous enough, avoid going through them. Some travel agents charge exorbitant fees and insert unnecessary itineraries on your trip. Search the web for information. Blogs provide more detailed and reliable reviews. Try to get the rates of car hire online for your reference. Getting directions and rates to a destination has become very easy through the internet.
3. Travel light. Pack only the necessities. We tend to bring along a lot of things in our bags that can only hamper our mobility and sometimes cost us extra if we have excess baggage. Again, know what to expect on your destination so that you know what clothes to pack.
4. Avoid making side trips. If you did not plan on going to another destination then you probably shouldn’t. Side trips would entail unplanned expenses and you do not know if you’re going to enjoy the place. The beauty of planning ahead is that you can choose the best itinerary that’s right on your budget.
5. Don’t spend too much on souvenirs and pasalubong. Pinoys when traveling would always bring home souvenir items and pasalubong for family and friends. More often than not, these items would only end up in shelves collecting dust. I would often buy small items for souvenir/pasalubong and keychain is a favorite. Food would also be good as long as it’s not bulky. When buying for pasalubong, the best place to get the best deal is at the local market. What’s more, you can always haggle at the market unlike at the malls.
Enjoy your vacation! :)

I actually have the same impression. The city is crowded and all. As if you never left Manila. Cebu's difference would be the language (Cebuano? Am I right?) that most people speak and the coded jeepneys. But I haven't been outside of the city (we just toured around by ourselves and spent a day there) so I think I'll go to Cebu next time and visit the outskirts suggested here - and bring more money to spend! The language is not the only difference. there is also the accessibility of going anywhere you want to within cebu city or other cities like mandaue and lapulapu in less than an hour; unlike manila that you should have a budget of two hours to go somewhere where you can just be there around 20 minutes in cebu.
the best thing about cebu is that when you want to go to the mountains, it's very near in busay or transcentral hiway, or if you want to go to the beach, the nearest is in mactan. unlike manila that the nearest beach is in subic or batangas which is 2-3 hours away.

Beautiful Cebu!....What used to be a simple lagoon area has turned to a food and beverage strip with the signature of Ayala landscaping and orchestrated water features. This is an addition to Cebu's dining and lifestyle scene. This is just one of the many aspects that makes Cebu almost like Manila when we speak of class and elegance. Cebu has a lot to offer to the visitors and to its locales; one thing that we should be proud about our very own Queen City of the South.

Whoa... really great shots tadz1158...
Fell in love with Cebu when I went there for the first time just last December 08. Then I went there for the second time just last March 09. Can't wait for my trip back again this coming August =)
The Tabo-an market is the best place to get your dried danggits and dried mangoes. During my first trip, I bought a 1/2 kilo dried mango (not the usual dried mangoes you see at the supermarkets) at the airport and it cost me Php 250. When I returned the second time around, I went to Tabo-an and their 1 kilo dried mangoes only sells for Php 260. Imagine the difference!
Also try the carbon market. They sell cebu handicrafts at a very low price. We bought a sungkaan there for Php 150. A native makeup pouch cost me around Php 60.
When looking for cute keychains and native necklaces, go to sutukil (in Mactan area) or just go outside the Sto. Niño Basilica. You can get both items at Php 10 each. Talk about cheap souvenirs for your friends.
If you want to buy a shirt instead, opt to go the Metro department store located at Ayala Center Cebu. I got my "I love Cebu" shirt there for Php 150. Also try the shirts at Sutukil. =)
I love staying at the Marco Polo. Their service is great and I love the ambiance of their rooms =)

That's nice. You really have been here when you speak of those places you've been too and buying those boneless dried danggits and dried mangoes. But don't forget the Otap delicacy which Shamrock bakery has been known of. They will pack it to an easy carry light box and this is ideal for "pasalubong" for friends & relatives when you get home. It's so easy to get there. If you take a taxi cab (as the place is within city along Mabini & Manalili Streets), you will be taken to this main outlet. There's also one along Capitol site.

A day at SM will not be enough.....You get inside the mall in the daylight, you will never know it's already dark when you get out.:)
 I AGREE!
and funny thing is, I did nothing but walk around, watch a movie, and played some arcade. I went out, the multi-thousand-peso street lights were already switched on.

I've never been to Cebu, but most of my friends who have been to the place thinks that It's almost like Manila.. Why?
cebu city, or to some Metro Cebu is in more ways, similar to Manila, Metro but what makes cebu alot more pleasant to live and visit is that you can go to places (beaches and mountains) in less than 15-20-30 minutes. taxi drivers are less confrontational, honest and friendly. there are already signs of traffic congestion but the good thing its that its tolerable and not insane unlike MM. the food is exceptionally great and the people are generally friendly. what you can see and buy in manila you can enjoy it in cebu. pollution is not that bad either. and the greatest of them all, cebuanas IMO have to be the most beautiful filipinas in the country!

I can still remember that my friend and I walked all the way to Shamrock from the Sto. Niño Basilica. =)
I prefer sugbu's otap because they're much sweeter as compared to Shamrock's, no offense meant for Shamrock Otap lovers =)
Let us not forget the chicharon and the famous cebu's lechon. =)

Yes, that's right, it's a walking distance to Basilica del Sto.NIno. And it's okay, we have many brands of Otap here in Cebu which we can be proud of and which are much tastier than Shamrock. It's just that Shamrock is well known than the others. I also love the original Titay's delicacies in Liloan. They have Otap, too. For the chicharon, we have the famous chicharon in Carcar and we also have the Villalonga's chicharon which is located in V. Rama/Guadalupe Street.

is there a safe and cheap accomodation in this beach you mentioned..bas daku?

I have been to Cebu a couple of times already and I always put in my itinerary a visit to the Taoist temple (I am a sucker for those beanie things they use to predict the future) but I never get to visit it! What time does it really close? I always come by there like around 5:00 pm and they're not open anymore. :(
So, I just comfort myself with eating dried mangoes and CNT lechon.

this look so irresistable! i wanna go there now!

cebu is an island my friend, and because we are on the midst of the visayan sea, expect cebu to have these beautiful white sand beaches and crystal clear bluewaters.
most people i know only knew about cebu as a cosmopolitan city next to manila but its just a tip of the ice berg.
to clear things up, the name cebu generally has 3 meanings. cebu as an island, cebu as a province (cebu mainland and the island municipalities of bantayan, madridejos, santa fe, san francisco, tudela, poro and pilar) and cebu as a metropolitan area (cebu city, mandaue city, lapu-lapu city, talisay city, cordova, consolacion, lilo-an, compostela, danao city, minglanilla, naga, san fernando, and carcar).
