NAIA terminal fee to be cut next month

THE TERMINAL FEE charged to passengers using the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to leave the Philippines will be reduced to P550 from P750 starting next month.
The cut comes as a security development program -- funded by a terminal fee increase that started February 2007 -- ends, Manila International Airport Authority general manager Jose Angel A. Honrado said in a telephone interview.

“This is because the security development program has a period of five years and it ends on February this year,” Mr. Honrado said.

The fee cut only applies to passengers leaving on international flights. The fee for domestic flights will remain at P200.

The government is currently working to rehabilitate NAIA’s Terminal 1, which last year was reported to have been named as one of the worst airports in the world.

A P1.16-billion outlay was announced for structural retrofitting, improvement of internal facilities, construction of a rapid exit taxiway and even the rehabilitation of the airport’s 72 toilets.
