The SM Mall of Asia is one of the popular malls in the country. It's a common venue for big concerts and events.

Here are some nice to know facts about MOA:

* It's not the largest shopping mall in the Philippines. It is second only to SM North Edsa.
*It is built on a reclaimed area
*It has four buildings that are connected by walkways
*It could boast of the first ever IMAX theater in our country
*It could also boast of our country's first olympic sized ice skating rink

Yup, they have an ice skating rink. But SM Megamall (the one in Ortigas) also has one.

it's nice to know from the info here that SM MOA is not the biggest. I mean, I was confused then because I thought that SM North Edsa was relly bigger. That cleared up the air, thanks.

What I like about MOA is that there is a place where you can see the Manila Bay. Some folks dine or have beer on restaurants on this side so they can see the perfect sunset.

Surprisingly, despite its vast area, it can still be crowded with people!

MoA is really big. The second set for the Eraserheads concert was held there. For foreigners, Eraserheads is one of the pillars of Philippine music. If not for them, I don't know what kind of music we have now, but I am certain that I wouldn't be enjoying it as much as now.

Ive only been to MoA once, and I wasn't even able to explore half of it. It's really big. But it's only second to SM North.

Thanks for the information, I thought that MoA was the largest. Ha ha!

this mall also has a large skating rink where people of all ages can experience skating on ice... they have different sizes of shoes so size is not a problem.when me and my friends had our chance to skate i was only staying near the wall because im afraid i might fall haha

Why is it called the Mall of Asia?

The best thing I love about Mall of Asia is the parking. We all know that parking spaces in Philippine malls are quite precious and one can actually spend a lot of time just finding a parking space inside the mall. And this is the reason why I love MOA. They made parking inside time-efficient.

You see, if you've been to MOA recently, their parking spaces are equipped with sensors above the parking space. Even from afar, you'll see if a parking space is vacant (green light is on) or occupied (red light is on). It saves people the hassle of going around and around like loonies looking for that precious parking space.

Kudos to the people who thought about this! :)

If going to MOA, one should try looking for Souvenir Shots near the big fountain outside so you can have an official picture of MOA complete with the frame. :)

I think it costs P50 (around $1) to have the pic taken and its printed out and framed in less than 2 minutes.

Isn't SM North Edsa bigger now than SM Mall of Asia? Or my eyes are just playing tricks on me.

SM North Edsa is a little larger than MoA. I don't really know the reason why it was called Mall of Asia, maybe because it WAS the largest here in the Philippines? But not in Asia...

I'd have to hand it to SM fo creating such a gigantic mall but I am not a great fan because I get tired just looking at it. It's too big for my feet to handle.

Ride those trains that take you from one point to the other. That'll give your feet some rest. :)

The SM Mall of Asia was the largest mall in asia back in 2008. And yes it is huge having a land area of 42 hectares, and built on 407,000 square meters floor area (mall).

SM management said that it is the largest in the Philippines and it is the third largest in the world.

Almost four hectares of floor area. 8,000 parking slots. 5,000 square meters allotted for public utility vehicles. 100 slots for tourist buses. Almost one kilometer in length, and a perimeter of almost 2 kilometers. Close to 2 million bags of cement used to build it and 44,000 gallons of paint consumed. It also has 1.9 million floor tiles installed in it. One wonders if this scale of development was for an airport terminal, a seaport, or an industrial complex.

Interestingly, however, these facts speak about the Philippines’ largest and world’s third largest mall, the 407,000 square-meter SM Mall of Asia.

What's confusing is, SM North Edsa has 460,000 sq. meters of floor area.

Maybe they based it on the land surface area rather than the floor area, since when MOA would be extended out, the 42 hectares of land could still be developed, in contrast to the SM City North Edsa, where there is a limited area to extend to.

they say MOA is sinking how true is this?

I guess the theory "since it's man made land" has it's point..

I completely agree with you. It is quite a daunting sight and such a mess if you try to memorize it. I got lost there once and took me awhile to get my bearings right. And it was because I was trying to locate the bowling alley and the directions was it was near Timezone. "Malay ko ba namang dalawa ang TimeZone!" I wound up at the wrong TimeZone so to speak.

have you notice the high technology in the parking area? where in there are lights that signals you where to park - green light and when theres a car already it turns to red -- high tech!

I've been to SM Mall of Asia countless of times already, but have always failed to roam around the whole vicinty. It's too big for my easily-tired feet. :D

Anyway, I love going to MOA 'cause they have everything there. It's like a one-stop mall. And really? SM North Edsa is bigger? I've always thought that SM North Edsa isn't so big. Or maybe I haven't been to all the parts of the mall.

Wow, I never noticed that. LOL. I'll watch out for that the next time I visit MOA.

Aside from shopping at MOA, I really like the restaurants that are facing Manila Bay. It's great to view the fireworks on display from that vantage point. We brought a balikbayan there last Friday for a late snack. They had a bar (LAX), Hooters, Magnolia Ice Cream restaurant (like the one they have in New Manila), Icebergs Eskimos, and a whole lot more. There were a bunch of live bands and you can hear it when you're dining outside. All in all, I found it a cool place to hang out.

Are there any price change in some stores? Like, in Shangri La, some stores are more expensive than their same branch in SM or other malls

That's what I thought too. By the way, why is it named SM Mall of Asia if it is not the largest? Just wondering....

Whole day if you ask me... or it may not be enough, that is if you will really go around the department store and hypermart and the seaside etc..
