by Harley Palangchao
A celebration of arts, culture and tradition is scheduled for three consecutive days towards the end of the year in Baguio with talented local musicians invited to be part of the “Rambak Cordillera” events.
Civic leader and event organizer Pio Velasco said it will be a non-stop fun and entertainment once the cultural music and dance festival kicks off on Dec. 27 with a cultural dance parade at Session Road at 9 a.m. before participants and audience gathered at the Melvin Jones for cultural dance presentations and open dancing at the same venue at 4 p.m.
Fun and entertainment continue on the second day, Dec. 28, with a musical parade at Session Road at 9 a.m. to be followed by musical presentations again at the Melvin Jones before the open musical and concert at 2 p.m.
The last day of the event, Dec. 29, starts with a wooden scooter race from Session Road to Melvin Jones to be followed by kadang-kadang (stilts) and gimata races also in same venue before the public will witness the one-cavan rice relay.
Cultural games continue at Melvin Jones as the organizers reported that people would witness a basketball game with coconut as a ball. Other indigenous games prepared on the last day are wood chopping contest, fire making, bamboo climbing and tug-of-war.
The three-day event culminates with a torch parade at 6 p.m. before the formal closing ceremony at the Melvin Jones ground at 9 p.m.
“The three-day event will allow the participants to show the uniqueness of their culture and it will promote tourism in their localities,” Velasco said.
