What is better for beginners? Mt. Pulag or Mt. Banahaw?

Nueva Vizcaya..

For the hikers out there. Mount Pulag is a great hike. Like you are up in the clouds. It's so high, the oxygen is thinner. I've been invited by my hiker friend countless times. I said I need to diet first and get back to condition or I think I'll just drop dead from exhaustion. Hahaha
I'll get my friend to send me some pix so I can post it here. Those who haven't been there like me, let's enjoy them pikchers... ;)

How long can it take for a beginner to reach the peak?

Level 1- Easy climb. For beginners. Usually a 1 to 2 day climb.

Level 2- Moderate climb. For those with some mountaineering experience and those who do this irregularly.

Level 3- Hard climb. Hard-core mountaineers. Regular trekkers with vast experience already.

The easy trail in Mt. Pulag is Ambangeg trail it's just a half- day climb.

but I think a beginner can do bothA mountaineer friend told me that Mt Banahaw is not for beginners. Besides, its closed...there are rangers patrolling the area. Pulag is okay, he says. The hiking is not strenuous; it's just the temperature that's gonna get you. It goes as low from 5 to -8 on the trail -- at 12nn!

5 to -8?! that's crazy:eek: It could be a good experience though.. We never get to experience that low of a temperature in our country :D

Here's a pic we took from the summit of Mt. Pulag during the Holy Week 2009 climb organized by the municipality of Kabayan.

Under the sea clouds, one could see the town of Tinoc, Ifugao. The best months to get such a view is during April-May, December to February. Temperature at the summit could drop from 5 degrees centigrade to as low as negative 8.

You could spice up your Mt. Pulag trip by visiting some of these sights or stopovers along the way..
