Puerto Galera is one whole stretch of beach in Mindoro. One can go there in less time than when one goes off to Baguio. It's a 3-hour ride to Batangas pier, and an hour ferryboat ride to the island itself.
There are a lot of resorts and inns to choose from. Of course, just like any other location, staying at the beachfront is more expensive than rooming in a hostel 2 blocks away. If you choose the latter, no worries, there are sooo many people to see and sidewalk vendors hawking their wares that you won't even notice the 10min walk to the beach. Galera is...how shall I put it? Fun and relaxing during off-peak months, and loud and exciting during the peak season. OH! Did I forget to mention that there's a party at the beach everyday during the peak season? Love it!! :D

Puerto Galera also has numerous diving and snorkeling spots. Just be careful of the strong ocean current in the late afternoon. So as much as possible, have your boat rides in the morning when the ocean is much calmer. :)

I've heard a lot about Puerto Galera but have never had the privilege of going there. :( Although, the everyday party is quite tempting:D

I've been in Puerto Galera last summer, and I was so surprised that I found it very cheap for an ordinary traveler or backpacker. We had a summer camp there with an organization and it was so much fun. We actually stayed in a private beach house in Talipanan and the beach was just breathtaking.

I agree you go there from Batangas in the morning to ride the ro-ro to avoid the seasickness..but once you get there, the ride is worth it. :)

My friends and I are planning to go to Puerto Galera this May for 3 days 2 nights or 4 days 3 nights. I guess a budget of 5000 per person would be enough for the whole trip.

That's a joke. My sister went there last April. They spent like 4k each for three days and two nights.

lol yeah, it's a bit expensive if it's only for one day.:pTravelers don't usually take into account cost especially if the reviews are positive. Wanderlust, it all depends on where they stayed, as is the case for any vacation spot. And Kelly, the 5K isn't for a day, I wouldn't even go if that's the case. ;)

So approximately 6k..safe enough? Uhm, from Manila, how do you get to Galera by public transportation? Are there any fun activities other than sun bathing and partying (like caves or something)? Thanks!

There are buses that go directly to Batangas pier. Takes about an hour 1/2 - 2hrs. Then an hour boat ride from the pier to the island.
Island hopping, snorkeling, jetskis...some of the things I've tried.

No offense meant but puerto gallera is getting too crowded. Well, aside from snorkeling(which you can do it in better beaches like palawan). Everything is getting too commercialized.

Is their a regular flight from manila to puerto galera?Yes, SEAir has twice-weekly flights from Manila to Calapan. But Wanderlust is right...it's more convenient to travel by land. Kasi from the airport to Puerto Galera, you would still have to travel 30mins by road or 45 minutes by banca.

Yes that's the problem. I think Boracay is starting to be commercialized too.
The older generation think of Baguio as an example of a place that became too commercialized. I wonder what Baguio is like during their time.
Hay. I wish people would think at the future generations of the country when they get to visit these places.

I think it's time to visit hidden wonders of the Philippines. We have 7, 107 islands for goodness' sake! The Philippines has a lot more in store for us!

What I definitely love about Puerto Galera is Mindoro Sling!

Mindoro sling is that really awesome cocktail that's so good you don't know you're already being hit like a horse! In Filipino, it's a traydor! :p It's available in almost every bar I think in Puerto Galera and is best shared with friends who will stay up partying with you all night!
